The Covid-19 pandemic may have hindered the recruitment of beneficiaries for Round Two of Pre-Employment Social Support (PESS) component of the Youth Opportunities Project (YOP); but the Government of Liberia with support from the World Bank is still committed to providing opportunities for Liberian youth. Following consultations among key stakeholders, a restructure plan was developed with various mitigation measures for different components of the YOP. Under PESS, youth like Amara Kamara who participated in Round One of the project, will be supported with small grants to start a business. Amara is a high school student who lives in a slum community on 12th Street Sinkor, Monrovia. “I was happy when I graduated from the program, but due to lack of opportunities, I went back to doing odd jobs in the community to survive” he said.
